The doctors and staff of Department of ENT at TS Misra Medical College Lucknow, focused on the treatment of ear, nose, oral cavity and larynx conditions in adults and children. This will include problems in hearing and deafness, ringing in the ears, vertigo (dizziness), noses that are very stuffy or runny all the time, tonsil problems, cancers of the ENT areas etc.

The ENT department consists of a highly skilled team of doctors and a specialist nurse dedicated to delivering high quality care to adult and paediatric patients. The department provides both elective and emergency ENT care and emergency ENT cover. The team works closely with audiologists, oncologists, speech and language therapists, dieticians and maxillo-facial surgeons to provide a multi-disciplinary approach when required.

Facilities in OPD as day care procedures:

  • Short surgical procedures done regularly include:
    1. Ear lobule repair (trauma or laceration)
    2. Nasal packing for nose bleed - anterior and posterior
    3. Removal of foreign bodies from ear/nose/throat
    4. Wound repair of accidental/trauma/assault injuries
  • Endoscopy room for Flexible Naso-pharyngo-laryngoscopy to examine nose, nasopharynx and larynx in cases of
    1. Difficulty in Swallowing
    2. Hoarseness of voice

  • Flexible Oseophageal Endoscopy (for the diagnosis of difficulty in swallowing/ Esophageal pathology)

Audiology and speech services -

  • Pure Tone Audiometry (for the evaluation of hearing & associated disorders)
  • Hearing evaluation with the help of audiometer/tympanometer is done routinely for suspected hearing loss in all age groups. For the purpose we have a dedicated sound proof room in the OPD. Masking therapy for tinnitus & speech therapy for various types of speech disorders are also available.

Electrophysiological evaluation of hearing through Brain Stem Evoked Response Audiometry, for threshold of Hearing Estimation & Oto-neurological diagnosis in collaboration with neurology lab.
  • Tests for pseudo-hypacusis.
  • Speech therapy for delay in speech and language children.
  • Voice disorders: Puberphonia, Androphonia, Hoarseness/Harshness/ Breathiness of voice, voice disorder due to trauma, Hypo nasality/Hyper nasality of voice, Prophylaxis for professional voice users, Laryngectomy rehabilitation.
  • Fluency disorders: Stuttering/Stammering, cluttering.

The Diagnostic services / Tests include:

Pure tone audiometry – the levels of sound (different noises) that people can hear and Impedance audiometry – to test how the parts of the ear, especially the eardrum are working.

Hearing Aid trial – hearing aid is a small electrical device put into the ear to help people hear

Speech assessment – testing what people say and how well they understand words / language

Voice analysis and therapy - done by the audiologists using computer based software

There is a voice and swallowing OPD at TS Misra Hospital on Tuesday and Thursday besides a regular general ENT OPD from Monday to Saturday.

The Endoscopy department has facilities for Functional Endoscopic Evaluation of swallowing, Nasal Endoscopy and Laryngoscopy.
